Marg Peter at Work

Text of Guelph Life Interview with Marg Link Button

Margaret Peter is a Guelph painter and original printmaker

who rejoices in the beauty of nature and the joy and inspiration it brings her.

Marg’s work is strongly textural and impressionistic.

"Creating a background colour and then putting thick acrylic or oil and cold wax on top allows for the creative scratching and manipulation with painting tools."

Found objects, such as feathers, shells, and fossils, give her imagination a "kick-start"
and she'll be off to create a new print about images that reflect life in its transient state.

Birds of a Feather

"I love the shapes and textures of feathers and took the opportunity
to record a lasting impression with watercolor, paper and printing press."

“I like to slightly abstract a drawing of an object or surface by emphasizing patterns and shapes
through the use of colour and textures or by closely examining a small section of it.”

Original prints include monotypes, collagraphs and etchings on paper.
Printmaking subjects usually involve fossils, cats, pictographs and petroglyphs.

"On location, thick watercolor paints are spread on an acrylic sheet and later
printed on paper with my press for a unique monotype."

Bissell Dam at Elora

Her vibrantly colourful acrylic paintings draw upon an eclectic array of subjects with floral, landscape, figurative and abstract themes.

Shrub Roses

While she enjoys working on site, her large fluid acrylic paintings are achieved in her studio.
